My sister Mary married David in the backyard of their Ann Arbor farmhouse this September and celebrated with loved ones at a party fitting the ideals of two environmental educators-it was made by hand, had zero waste and no impact on the environment. Congratulations to my little sis on your nuptials and creating such a special day we all enjoyed.
a few notes on their approach//Mary and David met working as environmental educators and thoughtfully planned for a party that included a compost station and recycling area with little signs to direct guests where to put everything. Plates, glass jars, cloth napkins, collected silverware all was thrifted and will be reused for future parties. A jar system cut down on glasses and cups-you put your name on a rubber band and used that one jar all evening for drinks. They wore vintage clothing. As a formal vow, they sang each other an Avett brothers song. My sister Anna and I made them bouquets and floral arrangements from locally grown flowers purchased at the farmer's market. Their garage served as the buffet and bar area for a dinner of salads, BBQ pulled pork and cider and donuts.

My favorite place on earth has to be the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where my grandparents have a farm about five miles from Lake Huron. I love hanging out with my family, exploring the little summer towns, going to the beach and the cool weather! This year, my brother put on an impressive firework display for our annual family reunion.
