Style Me Pretty Book

Thursday, August 29, 2013 | Published

The Style Me Pretty Weddings book is a STUNNING inspiration resource for weddings. I'm so proud to say the Maryland wedding of Kelly and Mark I photographed a few springs ago is a real wedding spread featured inside. It was a rainy day and showed that even when the weather doesn't go as planned, you can still have a beautiful celebration. A gorgeous book with so many ideas and pretty images!! summer salads

Tuesday, August 27, 2013 | food, garden, home & holiday

I whipped together a few summer salads for dinner. Serve with a baguette, cheese and my new favorite Argentine white wine 'Torrontes' on a flea market quilt and you have yourself the perfect summer picnic. Here's the recipes...Happy Labor Day!

Tomato & Peach Salad (adapted from my friend Sidra Forman's recipe)
chop one peach, one tomato and some mozzarella chunks, add basil and olive oil, a little salt and pepper

Apple & Manchego Cheese
chop one apple and this delicious hard sheep's milk cheese into matchstick size pieces, add a dash of chopped chives and olive oil to coat

Salmon, Avocado & Corn
this one is slightly experimental, maybe you have a tip to make it better. Boil two small ears of corn and chill them. Slice the corn off the cob in chunks. Bake a small piece of salmon and chop it. Mix the corn with salmon in a bowl and throw in some herbs and tomato slices. Add some avocado chunks and glaze it all with olive oil.

Lynn Vale Farm

Monday, August 26, 2013 | Interesting People of DC

Andrea, who owns Lynn Vale Farm, has a little flower stand at the Palisades Farmer's Market (just north of Georgetown) on Sundays and I love her made-on-the-spot bouquets, all grown on her Manassas, Virginia farm. Andrea also does wedding flowers and I've been lucky enough to work with her a few times over the last few years. Here my weekend bouquet in my new new dining room.

G&G's Garden

Wednesday, August 14, 2013 | food, garden, home & holiday

My grandparents have a massive garden on their farm on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Whether you're in need of a snack or a bouquet or just somewhere to wander, you'll find everything from cabbage to grapes, from to rhubarb to raspberries. One section is rows of vegetables and the other is flowers. My grandmother grows peonies, lilacs, lillies, hollyhocks, sage, daisies and hydrangea. They grow onions, potatoes, corn, beans, peas, peppers and dill. There is a small apple orchard in the front. The carrots are the most delicious I've ever tasted (that's my younger sister above grabbing a to-go bag). I usually visit in August when the hollyhocks are higher than me.
